¡Felicidades!

I spent the weekend in la Valle de Guadalupe celebrating the union of lives and hearts of a dear friend (whom I have known since middle school) to a wonderful man.  The weekend was full of laughter, rich conversation, delicious artisan wine crafted by the father of bride, a handful of Patron shots, and the warmth of Mexican hospitality.  ¡Felicidades Ana y Nathan!

Boom Roasted.

I made my third and fourth attempts at making beer brittle today.  Thankfully the third attempt worked!  I think I was just pressing my luck by trying a fourth and final.  “Waste not, want not,” well today it was more like, “waste not, scrub the pot of more burned brittle.”  Oh well.

TW, your Old Rasputin beer brittle will be on its way to you in the very near future!

Ending October

Food.

Confession.  I have a deep love for black beans.  So small.  So simple.  So healthy.  So good.  I eat them year round, but the following recipes (which I made this week) evoke a bit of autumn: spicy black bean hummus (I doubled the amount the lemon juice) and blackbean and butternut chili (in the future I will add more heat with 2-3 chipotle peppers, and reduce the amount of chili powder to 2 tablespoons).  Happy legumes to you!

Life Keeps Coming…and Going

An extended weekend in the greater San Francisco Bay Area allowed me to spend time with dear friends new and old.  Four days of quality time filled with laughter and conversations that plumb the depths of life.  Grace upon grace.

And before I forget, be sure to check out The 1010 Project, “10 photographers.  10 photos each.  All taken on 10/10/10.”

For the Love of All that is Autumn

Some of the Small Things I Love about Autumn:
• The smell of pumpkin cooking/baking — thank you to whomever’s pumpkin-based baking wafted across my path today!
• The vibrant colors of Fall foliage and crunching fallen leaves underfoot
• Comice Pear season
• Soup-making (and eating) season
• Rediscovering sweaters, scarves, and coats that have been packed away since March(ish)
• Drinking ungodly amounts of tea in the varieties of peppermint, Rooibos, and (decaffeinated) Early Grey
• Long walks in the waning sunlight enjoying #2, and which necessitate the use of #5
• Sleeping under a heavy-fill duvet with the windows wide open
• Red cheeks, chilled fingers and warm hearts
